“ Look, maybe you're wondering why it's so crowded. Probably because they're new? Or a fad? Or because they're actually good? It might be all of the above. Even now, on weekend evenings, they're packed to the brim with a queue in front. I tend to think, if you've been to one Taiwanese joint, you've been to them all. Braised pork rice, XXL chicken chop, noodles and dumplings, yada yada. Worse still (for me at least), Manjoe is pork-free. And you know how I feel about minced chicken (I don't like it). But there's a certain homeliness and familiarity to their food. The execution is consistent and good. Chicken is crispy. Noodles al-dente. Braised meat tender and juicy. And a wondrous variety of dumplings to try. The mentaiko and takoyaki pan-fried dumplings get my recommendation. Best of all, the portions are huge. Many items can be shared because they give a lot of everything, good for the pocket and good for you too! The only weakness I can detect is the dumpling filling being too tubular and densely packed, giving the dumplings a factory-made impression. Hand-made dumplings tend to taste fresher, lighter, and juicier. Their drinks could also use more variety. But otherwise, Manjoe looks like the perfect gateway to Taiwanese food, with its hearty potions and strong lean towards conventional, tried-and-true recipes. Service is good, as are the prices. Indulge! ”
